SIA Minutes January 18, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 by Wayne Jones, president.Members present: Wayne Jones, Steve Howard, Amy Blankenship, Eli Sauls, Lori Sauls, Sara Smith, Wanda Pate, and Nadine Nicolls
1. Andrews University-The Community Center is confirmed for the January 29th for the presentation. Steve has invited key people to the meeting. He will also invite the Planning Commission to attend.
Amy sent JoAnn a link to help write the history of the project and some publicity for the meeting. Check with JoAnn to verify that material has been sent to be published about the meeting.
Amy has flyers to pass out about the meeting. Announcements about the meeting are also placed on business signs.
2. Farmer's Market- Lori has contaced L'il Johnny's Portable Services to remove the portable toilet.
3. Presentation to the supervisors- Wayne suggested to wait until after the Andrews presentation to be on the agenda for the Board of Supervisors
4. Audit Committee-Pascal is organizing an audit committee. Lori has the material ready for the committee.
A treasurer's report for the year for 2006 was given and then filed.
Amy gave a slide presentation on land use and zoning in the Saucier area.
Points:
increase in miles traveled
obesity rate increase linked to driving everywhere rather than walking
bigger lots, bigger houses
water quality impact-increased runoff, quality of water impaired
land use driving emissions up
smart growth principles
preserve open space through zoning
spot zoning
Amy will check with GIS for population growth pattern for the Gulf Coast.
A question for discussion was brought up: Is is SIA's business to be involved in zoning and planning to make sure zoning and planning know the points of The Plan and how to implement it?
Yes that it is our concern, but we need to utilize the people of the area.
