SIA Board Meeting


June 19th, 2006

Old Business
Farmer's Market
  • The land for the Farmers" Market was cleared on Saturday, June 17th by Steve Howard, Ron Dougherty, Dorothy Jones and Jeff Gatton. Connie Rocko arranged for county to clean up the setback.
  • The Zoning Commission gave approval to run the Farmers' Market.It will operate on Wednesdays Saturdays from 6a.m. until 2p.m. First Saturday in the month to be Craft day.
  • There is water on the property, but it is not hooked up. Need to check on having it turned on.
  • JoAnn Munghia and Lisa Gregore are to handle publicity through the local papers. Flyers to be possible handed out. Possible advertising from the local merchants.
  • A table will be set up at the volunteer meeting on the 22nd for the Farmers' Market.
  • Steve Howard will write a disclaimer for the vendors to sign.

A meeting was held with a local architectural group who volunteered to help get things ready to give to Andrews University. There is a need for a consensus on what the buildings are to look like. Another meeting will be held on the 26th with the volunteers at the regular SIA meeting.
The term "modular home" was clarified. Aty its simplest, a modular home is on a slab and never had wheels.
The meeting for volunteers is on June 22nd at the Community Center. Ron and Beth Corder will set up the tables and supplies. Volunteer forms will be passed out at the door. Call list of volunteers to remind them of the meeting.
An update of what SIA has accomplished and what SIA is working on will be given.
Changes were again made to the agenda for the meeting on July 17th.
The meeting with church representatives will be on June 29th. Letters were mailed to the churches of Saucier. The meeting will introduce the church leaders to SIA and explain the purposes of SIA. The churches will be used to help communicate to the community.
Wayne Jones explained about the concept of using the church parking lots for a Park-n-Ride.
The condensed Plan was reviewed. Each committee member was asked to respond to the list of duties and responsibilities assigned to them. Discussion followed and minor changes were made.
It was discussed changing the title Parks and Recreation to Leisure Services. Pascal Gill suggested leaving it as is until he can discuss it with his committee members.
Connie Rocko will ask for the county employees in the Saucier area to work with SIA committees.
Gaps are appearing in the Plan as it is being revised. Some areas seem rather more involved than oters. More goals will be added where gaps are identified. Everyone should look for gaps that may be in the Plan.
Amy Blankenship is continuing to do research on recycling gray water and using composting toilets. She will work with Eli Sauls on this project.
A report will be given at a future meeting about having toilets at the Farmers' Market. A portable toilet can be rented for $75 for the time being.
Grants are available for funding in this area.
There will be a meeting with a representative of the USDA Rural Development next week.
New Business
SIA is doing a presentation at the Merchants' Association meeting on June 20th, updating them on our progress to date. Everyone should try to attend.
Each committee head should devise a detailed plan and verify that others have knowledge of all plans.
The sewer/wastewater issue has been turned over to Eli Sauls.
Pat Bonck should be contacted about information concerning sign ordinances.
Steve Howard and Wayne Jones met with Gerald Blessey on June 19th. He gave information on affordable housing options. There was an exchange of good ideas on various topics, including how Tradition and Sacuier should be designed to compliment and support each other.
The next meeting will be June26th.
