SIA Board meeting minutes
Monday 17th May
Keeping our policy of openness, following are the minutes of our 17th May meeting. Thanks to our interim Secretary Nadine Nicolls for preparing the minutes!
- Steve Howard spoke to Dalton McGuire about the property to be used for the Farmer's Market. Mr. McGuire expressed an interest in developing the property as soon as possible. The county cannot provide services on private property, so SIA will have to determine how to provide the needed services. There are also some questions and concerns about insurance. Mr. McGuire will be will be invited to meet the SIA at an upcoming SIA meeting.
- Steve Howard has filed for the permit to run the Farmer's Market. It will be brought before the Zoning Committee on June 17, 2006. He is also researching how other markets on the coast are run. Dorothy Jones has expressed an interest in helping with this project. It was noted that SIA should speak to the people living in the area around the proposed Farmer's Market to determine if they have any questions or concerns.
- Bill Pate has agreed to help draft the lease for the land for the Farmer's Market.
- Steve Howard is still working on the blog and hopes to have all SIA board members able to post to the Blog soon.
- Sarajane Smith turned in the duties and responsibilities of the Education Committee. This information is still missing for some Board members.
- Reminder. The new Community Plan has been posted. Everyone should read it.
- Andrews University is having problems getting the funding it needs to come here.
- A post office box has been opened for SIA at the Saucier Post Office. It is Box 766.
- SIA has obtained an EIN number.
- SIA will open a bank account at the People's Bank in Saucier.
- Wayne will meet with the Governor's Commission on Recovery and renewal on Friday, May 19. He will report on this at the next meeting.
- Nadine Nicolls has been appointed interim secretary after the resignation of Winifred Quarles.
- Lori Sauls has been appointed treasurer.
- Eli Sauls spoke to Rebecca Ladner about the 40 acre parcel of land at the NE corner of West Wortham Rd. and Saucier-Lizana Rd. SIA vehemently opposes the selling of this land and any other public land for private use.
- It was noted that SIA needs to contact all the people who have volunteered to help. No definite plan was developed, and this matter was tabled until the next meeting.
- SIA drafted a set of By-Laws. Steve Howard will post these for the Board to study. They will be re-examined at the next meeting.
- It was decided that SIA will meet on the first Tuesday of each month, and that the President may call special meetings whenever necessary.
